Measurement A refers to the maximum available luff space between shackles on the reefing system. We will then make the reductions in the sail size then make the finished sail fit within the indicated space.
Measurements P and E on the datasheet and Py and Ey for ketches refer to the actual measurements between the black bands as shown in the diagram. If no black bands visible on the mast and boom then the maximum measurable space should be given. We will then make the reductions required to enable the finished sail to fit within these limits and allow for growth and sailing loads when the sails are in use. Please tell us which measurements you have taken when submitting this information to us.
Please note that it is often misleading to measure the old sails as the measurements taken will be quite different to the space measurements from the spars themselves. The old sails will have changed shape over their working life and do not provide an accurate starting point for the design and manufacture of new ones
